Objectified : A Documentary

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Earlier we went to check out a special screening of Objectified at the IFI, which was introduced by director Gary Hustwit.
The documentary takes an indepth look into the manufactured objects we surround ourselves with, and the people who make them.
It examines our releationship with everyday objects and the concepts designers use to develop and improve them.

Highlights include interviews with Jonathan Ive (Design Chief at Apple, California), and Dieter Rams.
A post screening Q&A with Hustwit was equally engaging, discussions on topics such as how designers would be suited to applying their methodology to other areas such as medicine and politics.

It’s a great follow up to his first film, Helvetica, and the director commented on his plans for a final installment in his design documentary trilogy.

Here’s the trailer.

If you haven’t seen Helvetica yet, here’s some clips.
